PEPACTON RESERVOIR

The Pepacton Reservoir is a 5700 acre New York City owned watershed that provides the East Branch with its cool water releases. A special free fishing permit along with a NY State fishing license is required to fish the Pepacton and its tributaries. Large brown trout that live here quickly grow to an average size of five pounds, with some up to twenty pounds!

Casting lures and live bait from shore or trolling from rowboats are the most effective methods for catching these giants. Smallmouth and largemouth bass, perch, rock bass, crappie, and bullheads are also sought after by shore anglers.

For further information, please contact the New York City reservoir office at: (607)363-7000. Note: all permits issued prior to January 1, 2002 are no longer valid. For details in obtaining permits, please

Thousands of acres of state owned forest lands are open for public use in Delaware County. Miles of marked hiking trails provide scenic views and a chance to be alone with nature. Nearby Bear Spring Mt. Wildlife Area covers 7200 acres with marked horse trails and picnicking. Biking is a pleasure on miles of uncrowded country roads that traverse through farms, pastures and wooded hills.

Hunting for deer and turkey is regarded as some of the best in NY State.
