Besides the world class trout fishery beneath you, the East Branch supports a diverse wealth of wildlife such as Bald Eagles, Beavers, Muskrats, Bluebirds and so many more. A doe and her fawn pausing for a morning drink. A family of newly hatched ducklings hurrying to keep near the safety of mother’s protective wing. The sun breaking through the morning mist or evening fog forming on the crystal clear water. The tree lined banks framing a blaze of orange on as the sun sets on a perfect day.

Spending the day on the River is a great way for families, friends, and groups to work together, experience the memorable sights and sounds of nature, and simply have some plain old fun and make everlasting memories!

The trip from Downsville to Shinhopple is 6 miles and usually takes 3-4 hours of leisure paddling time. You may combine canoes and kayaks on this trip. We can get your vehicles to the end point by a driver following us to Shinhopple then we bring you to the launch point where your fun-filled day begins.

For the more adventurous and experienced, we offer another 6 or 8 miles further down the River to Harvard (6 miles) or East Branch (8 miles).
The time it takes you to complete your trip depends on how long your stops are and how fast you paddle. Once on the water, the canoe or kayak is yours for the rest of the day. There is no guide, you can set your own pace, stop where and when you want. You are on your own. The trip will end back at your car. Be sure to bring plenty to eat and drink and please remember to bring garbage bags to put your litter in and carry out.
