Canoe Rentals

Located At the Foot of the Pepacton Reservoir on the East Branch of the Delaware River on Routes 30 & 206, Al’s Sport Store is a Canoe and Kayak Outfitter for the East Branch of the Delaware River and Pepacton Reservoir. The East Branch is mostly quiet water with a few more active sections that are easily navigated with basic paddling skills. The river is generally 2-3 ft deep with some places lower and higher. The river height varies by seasons and weather. Water depths and conditions can change so it’s always good to call or check the USGS gauge links on our fishing page.

We offer 3 and 6 mile river trips on the East Branch of the Delaware River , as well as rowboat, canoe and kayak rentals on Pepacton Reservoir.

Spending the day on the water is a great way for families, friends, and groups to be together, experience the memorable sights and sounds of nature, and simply have some plain old fun and make everlasting memories! For a one on one experience with nature, a kayak is easier to maneuver and a great way to “paddle your own boat” to all the places you wish to explore.

The 3 mile river trip is from our store to the bridge at Corbett or from the bridge at Corbett to the bridge at Shinhopple and is approximately 2 hours.

The 6 mile river trip is from Downsville to Shinhopple and usually takes  3-4 hours.

For the trips ending at Shinhopple, we get your vehicles to the end point by a driver following us to Shinhopple then we bring you to the launch point where your fun-filled day begins. . The trip will end back at your car.

The Pepacton Reservoir trips require all participants over 18 to obtain an NYCDEP Watershed Access Permit. They are available online so get one before arriving if possible to save time when you get here. It’s also a good idea to reserve a day ahead so we can have your boats ready to go when you arrive. Everyone must be back to the store by 5PM

The time it takes you to complete your trip depends on how long your stops are and how fast you paddle. Once on the water, the canoe or kayak is yours for the rest of the day. There is no guide, you can set your own pace, stop where and when you want. You are on your own. Be sure to bring plenty to eat and drink and please remember to bring garbage bags to put your litter in and carry out.

For overnight trips we have a rustic cabin rental at our Shinhopple take out point, where guests can relax right on the river and continue on the second day 6 or 9 miles further downstream if desired. Call for details and rates.

When is the Best Time to Go?

RIVER TRIPS: For families we recommend starting after the morning fog burns off which usually happens after 9-10 AM. Many families take a picnic lunch and usually start between 10AM and 1PM. It’s a good idea to be on the water no later than @2PM.

If you’re fishing then going early or finishing later is usually better.

RESERVOIR TRIPS: we usually keep boats stored on the reservoir for early starts but everyone must be back at the store by 5PM.
